Getting To Know Us
Welcome to The Animal Chronicles, the online publication jointly run by S.O.F.A Film Festival and the Animal HEROES Hall Of Fame (AHHOF). So who are you and what do you do we hear you asking?
Well, celebrating its 10th anniversary this year (2025), every October S.O.F.A Film Festival showcases the finest local and international independent films relating to wildlife, animal welfare, conservation and the environment. Our films build the bridge between the public and those with boots on the ground raising awareness and fighting for the survival of the animal kingdom and the planet we inhabit.
We are working on developing a strong children’s section S.O.F.A Kids while S.O.F.A Tails doesn’t simply screen pet videos; we screen films that have been made with an intention, concept or story to convey the connection between the animals and their humans and how they have fit into our world.
Film-makers worldwide are connected through the festival and private Facebook Group while audience-wise we attract a diverse, international audience, bringing together people from all walks of life including activists, conservationists, environmentalists, film-makers, rescuers, youth – all working towards improving the lives of animals and their environment and supporting those who sometimes risk their own lives to make that difference.
Apart from the full festival, starting this year we plan to host special monthly screenings, interviews and online events in order to help with our future 3 year goal; to custom build a venue to host all our screenings (currently only online), award ceremonies and the Animal HEROES Hall Of Fame.
The AHHOF is run by S.O.F.A. Set up in 2020 we honour animals that have overcome adversity and have gone on to become heroes to humans or other animals who have served their country and/or community. Heroes and their actions come in various forms and each entry is considered on their individual merit; public recommendations can be made via the website. Our ‘Hall Of Valour’ honours animals who serve or have lost their lives while serving in Police, Military, Search and Rescue or Fire Units worldwide.
The Hall also celebrates animals who may look a little different through our #embracingtheirdifference campaign and we celebrate the creativity of animal artists. Due to the high volume of animals who deserve to have their legacy remembered we have started a HEROES Registry to list those who do not quite fit into our full Induction criteria.
In 2025 we are jointly launching the ‘Walk Of Honour’ to keep the legacy alive of humans and organisations who have dedicated their lives championing animals. When our venue is built their plaques will be built into our floor and walls. We are the only international animal hall and our headquarters, along with S.O.F.A are currently based in the Republic of Cyprus.
Please join our unique family and subscribe to The Animal Chronicle for details, interviews, stories, titbits and all things animal related; together we become a booming voice for the voiceless!
